Buying from Minster Auctions Ltd is a straightforward and enjoyable way to acquire a wide range of unique and interesting items at auction. Whether you are a first-time buyer or an experienced bidder, our process is designed to be clear, accessible, and easy to follow.
The first step is to browse our auction catalogue, where you can explore the available lots and identify items of interest. Each lot is listed with a description to help you make an informed decision before placing a bid. Taking the time to review the catalogue carefully will ensure you are fully prepared ahead of the auction.
Once you have selected the items you wish to bid on, you will need to register. Registration typically requires some basic personal details and, in some cases, identification. This allows you to participate in the auction and ensures that all bidding activity is conducted securely and responsibly.
There are several ways to place your bids, offering flexibility depending on your preference. You may choose to bid online, arrange a telephone bid, or submit a commission (absentee) bid in advance. Each option is designed to make bidding as convenient as possible, whether you are attending remotely or planning ahead.
Before bidding, it is important to familiarise yourself with the relevant terms and conditions. This includes understanding the buyer’s premium, payment expectations, and collection arrangements. Being aware of these details in advance will help you bid with confidence and avoid any unexpected costs.
If you require assistance at any point during the process, our team is available to help and provide guidance.
Following the auction, results will be made available on our website, allowing buyers and vendors to review the outcome of the sale. Vendors will also receive a post-sale summary by email for their records.
Payments to vendors are typically processed within 21 days of the auction. This timeframe allows for funds to be received and cleared from buyers before payments are released. As Minster Auctions acts as an agent between buyer and seller, all payments must be fully settled before proceeds can be distributed.
In cases where items remain unsold, they may be entered into a future auction by prior agreement. Alternatively, vendors may arrange to collect unsold lots within seven working days of the auction. After this period, storage charges of £5 per lot, per day will apply.
This process ensures that all items are managed efficiently following the conclusion of the auction.
When purchasing items at auction, a buyer’s premium of 20% is applied to the hammer price of each lot. This forms part of the total amount payable and should be taken into account when placing your bids.
In addition to the buyer’s premium, all purchases are subject to VAT at the current rate where applicable. Certain items, such as books and unframed maps, are exempt from VAT, but all other charges will include VAT as required.
It is also important to be aware of storage charges. Purchased lots must be collected within seven working days of the auction. Any items not collected within this timeframe will incur a storage charge of £5 per lot, per day. These charges can accumulate quickly, so prompt collection is strongly advised.
Reviewing all applicable charges in advance will help ensure that you have a clear understanding of the total cost of your purchase.
To take part in any of our auctions, all buyers must register in advance. Registration can be completed directly with Minster Auctions or through online bidding. This process ensures that all bidders are properly authorised to participate.
We provide a number of bidding options to suit different preferences and circumstances. Online bidding allows you to take part in the auction in real time from any location, offering a convenient and accessible way to follow the sale.
Alternatively, you may submit a commission or written bid. This allows you to specify the maximum amount you are willing to pay for a lot, and we will bid on your behalf during the auction. Commission bids must be submitted no later than 4pm on the day prior to the auction to ensure they can be processed correctly.
Telephone bidding is also available on selected lots. This option enables you to speak directly with a member of our team during the auction, who will place bids on your behalf as the lot progresses. Telephone bids must be arranged in advance and booked by 4pm on the day before the auction.
Whichever method you choose, we aim to provide a smooth and reliable bidding experience.
Buyers are responsible for collecting their purchased lots within seven working days of the auction. This allows for efficient handling of items and ensures that storage space is managed effectively.
If items are not collected within this period, storage charges will apply at a rate of £5 plus VAT per lot, per day. These charges will continue to accrue until the items are collected.
It is recommended that buyers make suitable arrangements for collection as soon as possible following the auction to avoid unnecessary delays or additional costs.
