A rare group of Medals awarded to Commander Robert Jenkins R.N. were offered in our 9th February Collector’s Sale and achieved a strong hammer price of £33,000 (Plus 20% Buyer’s Premium). The group included the scarce Arctic Medal issued for Jenkin’s involvement in resupplying the ships searching for Franklin’s lost crews. The group traces Jenkin’s career from a midshipman on H.M.S. Blonde serving in China all the way through to the pinnacle of his career as a Commander. An attractive watercolour Portrait of Jenkin’s accompanied the lot.
This medal group was part of a 600 lot sale on Militaria, Taxidermy, model Railway & Diecast Vehicles and antiquarian Books which received a huge amount of interest with over 600 bidders registered for the sale.
Other highlights included a 17th Century Japanese Katana at £2000 slightly out doing a WWII Katana that achieved £1900.
A cased taxidermy Brown Trout by Peter Spicer & Sons was popular with the taxidermy buyers and finally made £580. An American carved and painted Canvasback duck Decoy made £260 and a good collection of individual Hardy Reels all made between mid and upper estimates.
